VIDEO PROCESSING UNIT

T408

Video Transcoder

Codensity T408 is a U.2 form-factor video transcoder containing a single Codensity G4 ASIC. Operating in x86 and Arm-based servers, T408 enables video streaming services and platforms to move from software to hardware in the data center to power real-time video applications at a TCO that is 10x less than CPU-based solutions.

Designed for the Data Center

High Density Real-time UHD Video Transcoding

T408 modules take full advantage of ASIC-based video processors inside the Codensity G4 SoC technology to support a H.264/HEVC transcoding throughput of 60 fps of 4K UHD video, or 4x 1080p60 streams per T408 module. At lower resolutions, even more simultaneous streams can be supported.

By offloading complex encode/decode processing to the ASIC, the T408 video transcoders minimize host CPU utilization. The result is a significant improvement in real-time transcoding density compared to any software or GPU-based transcoding solution.

Integrates into Enterprise-Class NVMe Servers

Available in both U.2 and PCIe card form factors, the T408 offers a simple upgrade path from CPU based software to ASIC video encoding on any x86 or Arm server.

Software Integration with FFmpeg & GStreamer Library Support

Many video processing and transcoding applications developers are familiar with FFmpeg and GStreamer, two open-source software libraries offering a vast suite of video processing functions. The T408 includes highly efficient FFmpeg and GStreamer compatible SDKs, allowing operators to apply an FFmpeg/libavcodec or GStreamer patch to complete the integration.

The libavcodec patch on the host server functions between the T408 NVME interface and the FFmpeg software layer, allowing existing video transcoding applications to achieve quick and significant performance and capacity upgrades.

High Power Efficiency

Each T408 U.2 module consumes just 7W of power at full load. Plug ten T408 U.2 modules into a 1RU server, and you have a highly efficient video transcoding server capable of 40 simultaneous 1080p60 live streams.

HOW IT WORKS

High-Density Transcoding Solution

T408 uses the purpose-built Codensity G4 ASIC with support for H.264 and HEVC video encoding up to 4K resolution with 10-bit HDR.

The T408 Video Transcoder can be hosted in any x86 or Arm enterprise-class server for an easy upgrade path from software to hardware video performance.

The high throughput of the T408 enables ultra-low latency encoding of 4 broadcast quality 1080p60 streams per U.2 slot.
